Travelling made easy with Radisson Blu…
Family Travel Review : By Rachel Ducker
Gone are the days of getting up in the early hours of the morning for flights with two kids under the age of three years old.
After trying this once with my two boys, I quickly learnt that having tired kids is not a fun experience when flying and often starts a family holiday off on the wrong foot.
So on our first flight in what felt like forever – we decided to take the ease out of travelling by checking into the Radisson Blu Hotel at Stansted, situated right next to Stansted airport.
Why stay before you fly?
The best thing about the Radisson Blu Hotel is that it is just a short walk into the airport. So if you have an early morning flight – you can have a good meal at the hotels restaurant the evening, as well as gaining a few more hours of precious rest, then its just a hop, skip and a jump to the departure gates.
For me personally, with so much more luggage when travelling with a family, it took the stress right out of that initial part of the journey. We arrived for our flight in good time without hassle and well rested. Parking is also on site, so you don’t have to worry about getting a shuttle bus anywhere on departure or return.
Food and Drink
One of the stand out features about this hotel is the Wine Tower Bar, a 13-metre high wine rack holding more than 4,000 bottles, soars above the lobby – it’s pretty impressive! Open every day from 11am, it was the first tower of its kind built in Europe. You can enjoy signature cocktails made with local and flavoured gins, vodkas, rums, whiskey, and bourbons.
The Collage Restaurant is worth a visit even if you’re not staying at the hotel, from a gourmet burger to a superfood salad, along with fish and chips to creative vegan options, there is a menu for all appetites. Experience a unique twist on the classic British brasserie and relax with a nice glass of wine, as the pre-holiday excitement builds.
The ‘Super Buffet Breakfast’ can either be taken downstairs in the Filini restaurant or in-room. There’s an extensive choice at breakfast, including full-English and continental options, should your flight not leave before it is served!
Speedy check in/out desks
If you are in a rush there is a self check in and check out system, so it really is as simple as dropping off your keys and settling any bill.
We used this service during our stay – sometimes at 4am the last thing you want to do is to be sociable!
The 500 rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated – there are four types of room offered (standard, family, business and suites) all of which include convenient features such as tea and coffee making facilities, a safe and a mini-bar.
We had a family room, the gloriously comfortable bed and full-proof black-out blinds meant a good night’s sleep was pretty much guaranteed. Walking in, the first thing I spotted was a bed big enough for the four of us, but we also had an adjoining room for my two year old Leo, it also meant we could spread cases and with two bathrooms – my husband and I weren’t fighting for sink space at 4am.
The service we received was exceptional, we even had a little welcome waiting for us in the room, my son Leo enjoyed the Lily O’Brian sweet treats! After all of the packing, stressing and other things mum’s have to worry about before a family holiday, it was nice to start the trip off a luxury stay at the Radisson Blu.
A stay here is the answer your pre holiday prayers – by booking into the Radisson Blu the night before – you’ll be so glad you did!
