The Bury Festival 2018

The Bury St Edmunds Festival 2018 – From Reggae to Rhymes…

Now in its 33rd year, the Bury Festival welcomes a star-studded programme for a world class celebration of culture. With 59 events across 14 venues in just 10 days the Festival offers award-winning music acts, street theatre, films and exhibitions.

During this year’s festival the picturesque setting of Nowton Park welcomes chart toppers from across the decades, in a collaboration with OEP Live!. Kicking off the alfresco concerts will be national treasure, pianist, bandleader and broadcaster, Jools Holland with his world-famous Rhythm and Blues Orchestra and special guests including Soft Cell’s Marc Almond.

Legendary musician, Gilbert O’Sullivan, will be celebrating five decades in the music industry with a special matinee concert. A perfect excuse to grab your picnic basket and enjoy a sparkling afternoon of classic such as ‘Alone Again Naturally’ and ‘Get Down’. And to round off the Festival in style, Bury St Edmunds welcomes Grammy and Brit award-nominated UB40 for a sensational evening of 80s classics.

With a line-up full of firm music favourites there is guaranteed to be something to suite all tastes from the vocal stylings of Berlin’s Ute Lemper to South Africa’s Grammy award-winning Ladysmith Black Mambazo (the stars of Paul Simon’s multi-million selling ‘Graceland’ album).

Celebrating local talent is an exciting collaboration between one of the most prolific entertainers of the past 30 years, Aled Jones, and the young talent of Bury St Edmunds’ Voice Squad as well as performances from the St Edmundsbury Singers, The Edmund Octet and Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra.

Music is not the only art form on display. In the abundance of brilliant acts, literary legend and one of Britain’s most remarkable poets Benjamin Zephaniah returns to the stage with his first tour in eight years, the hilarious Roger McGough will be setting his wit and wordplay to the musical sound of Little Machine and direct from Sadler’s Wells the festival welcomes The Tap Pack for a cocktail of high-energy tap dancing entertainment.

This year the festival will run for 10 days between Friday 18 – Sunday 27 May. Tickets are now on sale with festival brochures available from The Apex and other locations in Bury St Edmunds. A full line-up of  events can also be found online at
