Lots of people are looking for ways to stay healthy while stuck in lockdown. Here are five things you can do to keep your body active and your fitness optimal.

Wii FIt

The Wii might be old news by now, but if you still have one in your home then this console can prove to be a useful ally in your battle for a more active lifestyle. There are a number of games available for the Wii that encourage players to be more active, Wii Fit is probably the best-known of these. If you are planning on spending most of your lockdown inside playing videogames anyway, you might as well be playing Wii Fit.

Practice Your Golf Swing

If you are a keen golfer or you regularly play a similar sport, you might still be able to practice in lockdown even if you aren’t able to play properly. For example, you can use a golf launch monitor to help improve your golf game, even while you are unable to play properly.

Buy Or Make Some Weights

Lifting weights is one of the most popular exercises for people to do at home, and it isn’t hard to see why. Weightlifting is a great way of building up your biceps, large biceps being considered a reliable indicator of strength and fitness. However, it isn’t just a great way of building up this specific muscle. By varying the technique that you use to lift weights, the amount of weight that you use, and the way that you use it, you can use weights to help work out any muscle group in your body.

When most people think of weight exercises they instantly think of dumbbells. However, while having your own set of dumbbells will no doubt make it easier for you to do weight training exercises, there is no need to invest in expensive gym equipment. Many people have found great success by creating their own improvised weight, usually by filling containers with liquid. If you have a container capable of holding several gallons of liquid, you can easily fill it until it is heavy enough for your needs.

As well as the aforementioned bicep curl, you can also hold weights while doing other exercises such as squats or pull-ups in order to add to the challenge. This enables you to get even more mileage out of conventional bodyweight exercises and lets you gain more muscle than you would otherwise be able to.

Push-Ups & Sit-Ups

The best kinds of exercises are those that don’t require you to invest in any additional equipment or training. This is part of the reason that both push-ups and sit-ups have proven to be exceptionally popular among people who are trying to improve their overall fitness level. While everyone is in lockdown and stuck in their homes, exercises like these are becoming even more popular.

These are great exercises for targeting specific muscle groups in your body. If you are able to tone up the right muscles, then it can make a big difference to your self-esteem and body image. For people who are used to getting their exercise via running or walking, these exercises are a great way of beginning to expand your horizons.

FItness DVDs and Guided Workouts on YouTube

For the absolute beginners who have never before tried a serious workout routine, there are lots of guided workouts available online that will ease you into a new exercise routine. If you have a couple of fitness DVDs that you received in the past as unwanted gifts, now might be the perfect time to break them out and actually give them a go.

Many people find that following a guided fitness routine is much more effective than trying to work things out for themselves. Just make sure that you don’t overdo it and dive in at the deep end, as this is a sure-fire way to injure yourself.

Being in lockdown might make exercising more difficult, but it is far from impossible. Use the advice above as a starting point for devising your own lockdown routine.
