Bounce Magazine were kindly invited to try out a glamping experience at West Stow Pods near Thetford..
In a private patch of woodland fringing Thetford forest park awaits West Stow Pods…
On site you will find a range of lodging styles including four cosy MegaPods, a homely Woodland Lodge and their newest development: ‘Pod Hollow’, a halfling-inspired subterranean dwelling nestled in the side of a grassy knoll. Come and stay with us for a unique and tranquil glamping experience in Suffolk’s picturesque woodlands.
Our Bounce team are not shy of a little camping, but this even takes glamping to a whole new level.
Upon arrival we walked up the very whimsical looking woodland pathway, catching our first glimpse of ‘Pod Hollow’ nestled further back.
We set up home for the night in a MegaPod, complete with double bed, electricity and lighting, wet-room, TV and thankfully on this chilly night, its own heating system.
For those who like to self cater, no problem. With a kitchenette complete with sink, microwave toaster and kettle, along with the brick barbecue outdoors, a feast can be created in no time.
On the other hand you could take the easy option, as we did on this particular evening, you can pop over to a near by pub for a quick feed before making your way back to this little piece of Suffolk splendour.
Bury St Edmunds is not far from the site if you fancied venturing out a little further.
You will need to bring everything you would need for camping, such as toiletries, sheets, towels, plates and cups, however, we quite liked the fact we could be comfortable in our own bedding, it gave the pod our own little homely stamp.
If you are looking for something a little larger, you could always stay in a woodland lodge. Perfect for families with two rooms and a covered porch.
Or for a real treat, of course, there is ‘Pod Hollow’ the latest edition to West Stow Pods. Seek your next adventure at ‘Pod Hollow’, a halfling-inspired subterranean dwelling.
Surrounded by twisted tress, rumoured to have been the inspiration behind the story ‘Peter Pan’ ‘Pod Hollow’ couldn’t find itself in a more of an idyllic location.
With two double bedrooms, a sitting room, kitchen and more, ‘Pod Hollow’ brings together old-world charm and modern comforts in a restful and idyllic environment. It is a home fit for any of Middle-Earth’s hairy-footed, halfling residents. (And you, of course!).
It is now officially open and taking bookings. Early bird discount mid weeks during June.
Owner Jan commented…
“The project is unique here, we are within a mile of an Anglo Saxon village so what we have is a unique opportunity to create something special.”
Tying nicely in with the theme, you can also visit the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, an open-air archaeological museum located just 1.5 miles from our glamping site.
The local landmark brings nature, history and fun together for a perfect all-ages outing.
The site was an Anglo-Saxon settlement over 1,500 years ago. Now, visitors can step back in time as many Anglo-Saxon houses have been fully reconstructed.
The open-air museum also features a number of activities, including an Archaeology Gallery and an educational film about Anglo-Saxon life.
There is a 10% discount at the Anglo Saxon
Village and a fantastic offer of 10% discount in the shop and entry into the park available for West Stow Podders.
Just ask owners Ed or Jan for details upon arrival.
You can also make more of your visit by enjoying a range of experiences provided by Arnor Heritage. These can be tailored to your needs and modified to suit your dates and times.
For further details see www.arnor.org.uk; for options and bookings please contact by email at email@example.com or telephone 07721 015447.
For those with four legged friends, you are also welcome in the dog friendly pods.
The area is full of beautiful walks and trails, and just five minutes down the road is Lackford Lakes, another wonderful place to visit.
There is also a fishery near by, for lovers of fishing as well as Go Ape at High Lodge for the adventurous types!
We loved our time here and can’t wait to visit again.
West Stow Pods is the perfect way to get reacquainted with nature without sacrificing any modern comforts.
