Aldeburgh Food & Drink Festival

During September I had the pleasure of attending the annual Aldeburgh Food & Drink festival. This event showcases the very best of Suffolk produce, and what fine produce there was on offer…

The event took place in the beautiful setting of Snape Maltings, next to the River Alde and close to the Suffolk coast, where reed-covered marshlands stretch into the distance towards Aldeburgh. This year, I had my partners in crime with me, my mum and my brother Jay, whilst Sam helped out with the photography and sampling the food and drink!

As we arrived, we didn’t know where to start, so without thinking, we all scattered off like ants to investigate the scrumptious smells that were luring us in.

Shortly after a fudge pit stop, came my first purchase of the day, which was at ‘Bakers’, who specialise in baking for dogs. For those of you who know me you will know that our dog Archie, (column found on page 122) is one spoilt puppy, so naturally the first purchase was for him!

As we ventured and sampled our way through delicious smells and brightly coloured displays, we also took time to visit the two cookery demonstration stages hosting visiting and

local chefs. We also bumped into our good friend Joe Hurd, who featured as our cover star for July’s Edition. He was there demonstrating on the Co-op stage.

The marquee this year was home to Suffolk’s finest producers. In here we loved watching the crowds sampling away, some of the displays looked like pieces of artwork. With over 90 food and drink producers from Suffolk, many from just a few miles away, all selling their produce including raw milk, organic vegetables, sourdough bread, award winning beer and spirits from Adnams, cider from Aspall and delicious street food. It was a wonderful event, more news can be found on the website.
